When we talk about lakes, the first thing that usually comes to mind is tranquility. Then, of course, there’s hiking, swimming, boating, fishing, and getting away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Here is my list of some top lake destinations where you can unwind and create great lasting memories.
SOUTH CAROLINA: LAKE MURRAY
Lake Murray is an excellent place for a family summer vacation. This manufactured lake offers paddleboarding, kayaking, boating, sailing, and endless water activities.
If you’re looking for relaxation, enjoy the quiet side at Dreher Island State Park. Here you can relax on the sandy beach, swim, kayak, and paddleboard (available for rental). Campsites are available if you like camping, or you can rent waterfront villas.
WISCONSIN: GHOST LAKE LODGE

Lake Mac, what is known to Nebraskans, boasts the state’s largest lake at 142′ deep. With over 20 miles of sandy beach, it is a favorite for those who want to relax on the shore or play in the water.

CALIFORNIA: LAKE TAHOE
One of the most famous lakes in the United States, this straddles two states, California, and Nevada, and is a favorite vacation spot. Though there is no wrong view from anywhere on this lake, the north side offers some of the best places to stay.
