Australian Children’s Books and Activity Ideas || The Travel Tester

On our last trip to Australia, I saw so many adorable Australian children’s books that I wanted to bring home, I had to control myself!
In this article, I will show an overview of my favourite books about Australia for kids – and of course, adults who can enjoy them just as much!
AUSTRALIAN CHILDREN’S BOOKS

FAVOURITE AUSTRALIAN CHILDREN’S BOOKS
To start off, here are my personal favourite Australian kid’s books.

OTHER AUSTRALIAN BOOKS FOR KIDS
This list is far from complete, but here are some other suggestions:

TRAVEL WITHOUT LEAVING HOME?
You don’t always need to be physically on the road to enjoy the beauty of destinations from all around the world!
From vintage travel posters to beautifully displayed souvenirs and home decor items inspired by your favourite places and from travel journals and crafts to exploring world recipes, music and dance.
With our creative articles you’ll get some fresh ideas on how to bring the world closer to the comforts of your own home.

Diary of a Wombat
This cute little book isn’t just my favourite kids book about Australia, it might be my favourite kids book of all time! In the story, you follow the weekly schedule of a little wombat that lives in the backyard of a family. What he enjoys most? Well… sleeping and eating carrots, of course.

There is also another version called Diary of a Baby Wombat.

Bin Chicken Flies Again
I never heard about this book before until I saw it in a bookstore in Sydney and had to laugh so much. In case you don’t know, a ‘bin chicken’ is what Australians call their native Ibis bird. They get about the same love pigeons and rats receive back here in Europe, as they mostly go through your trash and make a mess, and they cannot fly, hence the ‘chicken’ part, haha.

The original version of this book is called Bin Chicken and there is another version called Winner Winner Bin Chicken Dinner

WHICH BOOK TO READ?
The Travel Tester loves to review books that teach you something about yourself or the world around us.
From travel guides and stories to books about business and self-development and from cultural stories to cook books from kitchens around the world… if it looks interesting to us, we’ll test it!
No matter where you’re going, with our reviews you’ll know exactly what to read next!

Jinormous Jack
A cute story about Jack, a whale shark, and his adventures in the Ningaloo Reef in Western Australia. The perfect introduction to spark a discussion about ocean life and taking care of our (underwater) planet with kids.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t find this book in an online shop.

The Koala Who Could
I was immediately drawn to the illustration style of this little book, but the story was just as interesting! Kevin is an anxious koala who finds change challenging. He spends his days and nights in the Australian Outback clinging to his gum tree, despite the best efforts of the other animals to get him down to play with them. It’s like this book was written about me, haha.
