A Perfect Harmony of Fun and Relaxation at the Walt Disney Resort in Hawaii

In August 2011, Disney opened its new Aulani Resort in Hawaii, adding another gem to the Disney Vacation Club. This resort is ideally located in Ko Olina on the west coast of Oahu, just 20 minutes from the airport and 45 minutes from Waikiki. It’s near the JW Marriott Resort and boasts a beautiful lagoon beach with shallow, calm waters, making it perfect for children.
Disney is known for creating magical experiences through its theme parks, cruise lines, hotels, and media. The Aulani Resort takes this magic to a new level with a focus on education and cultural awareness. The name “Aulani” translates to “One who delivers a message from a higher authority.” In this case, Disney is the messenger, sharing an authentic Hawaiian experience. The resort features incredible attention to detail in its gardens, artwork, curtains, blankets, mats, and architecture. As you enter the resort’s main hall, Makala, you’re greeted by Hawaiian art, storytelling, and wildlife, creating a blend of traditional and modern paradise.
Local artisans like Rocky Jensen, McD Philpots, Solomon Enos, and Dalan Tanahy were commissioned to add artistic touches to the resort. The Waikolohe Valley, named “naughty waters,” offers waterfalls, rocks, water, and jets that are perfect for kids to explore and find hidden treasures. Zia’s Beach House provides a fun and educational environment for children. Families can snorkel with Hawaiian fish, and adults can unwind by the waterfalls and whirlpools while enjoying the sunset.
Walt Disney’s creativity shines through in this resort, ensuring fun for the whole family. Aulani will feature two restaurants, including the Makahiki ‘AMA’ for fine dining. This restaurant brings the Makahiki Festival to life with elegant murals depicting scenes of feasting, games, and parties, as described by Joe Rohde, a Walt Disney Imagineer. Mickey Mouse and other characters will also be there, dressed in Hawaiian attire to delight the children during breakfast. This oceanfront resort is sure to become a memorable getaway for families visiting the stunning islands of Hawaii.
